Kettering College Student Gives Back at Dayton Cleanup Event
Kettering College believes in building our students up not only through education but also through their service to others. Participating in volunteer projects is one way we encourage our students to grow.
One such recent event was Invest in Your City, an Earth Day initiative set up by the group I Love West Dayton. Its focus was to clean up parts of the Westwood area of Dayton. Kettering Health was one of the day’s sponsors alongside other area groups such as:
- Waste-Free Dayton
- The City of Dayton, and
- Dayton Young Black Professionals
Ben Hotelling, Associate Dean of Student Affairs encouraged students to volunteer and enjoy fellowship with others in the process. Kettering College nursing student Natalia Gomez Ortega did just that.
“I’ve always liked to volunteer and try different things to do it. I thought it was a good idea to assist with the Earth Day cleanup and be helpful to the community in some way, especially on Sabbath to worship God by helping others.”
Gomez Ortega said during the activity she helped clean a community garden by weeding flower beds and felt “it was a good opportunity to know new people and certainly most importantly to serve God.”
Thanks for your hard work, Natalia, and for reminding us of the importance of caring for the earth and for each other. Well done!
