Our Accreditations

The College

Kettering College received accreditation through the Ohio Board of Regents (now known as The Ohio Department of Higher Education (ODHE) in 1968. Full regional accreditation was granted to the college in 1974 by The Higher Learning Commission (HLC – a member of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools). HLC accreditation has been maintained since that time and the last comprehensive visit in 2013 resulted in a maximum-length 10-year accreditation term which is valid until 2023. The Accrediting Association of Seventh-day Adventist Schools, Colleges and Universities (AAA) first granted accreditation to Kettering College in 1967. Kettering College has maintained AAA accreditation since that time and was granted the maximum accreditation term of 5-years as a result of the 2020 AAA visit. The current term ends on December 31, 2025.

The College has been approved by the respective U.S. government agencies for acceptance of foreign students and for student eligibility under the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs education benefits and the U.S. Department of Education and Health and Human Services loans and grants.

NC-SARA

For the protection of students, the U.S. Department of Education requires that colleges and universities that offer distance education be registered in the home states of all their online students. This is a difficult and costly task for all institutions. The National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (NC-SARA) is an organization of states, districts, and territories of the United States that establishes quality standards and protections for online students. Institutions in each member state can register in their state and they are then authorized to offer distance education in all other member states. This agreement makes it much easier for institutions to offer clinical assignments and online education in SARA member states.

The State of Ohio is a member of NC-SARA and Kettering College (KC) participates in NC-SARA. At this time, California, American Samoa, Guam, and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands do not participate in NC-SARA, and Kettering College must register in these jurisdictions to offer distance education there.

The Ohio Department of Higher Education (ODHE) is responsible for responding to formal complaints against public, independent non-profit and proprietary institutions of higher education in Ohio. While the ODHE has limited authority over colleges and universities, and cannot offer legal advice or initiate civil court cases, the Chancellor’s staff will review submitted complaints and work with student complainants and institutions.

Complaints not under the jurisdiction of the Ohio Department of Higher Education include:

  • Complaints filed more than two years after the incident
  • Grade disputes
  • Student conduct violations
  • Criminal misconduct
  • Violations of federal law

For additional information and to submit a complaint, please see the Ohio Higher Education website https://www.ohiohighered.org/students/complaints

Professional Licensure & Certification Disclosures for Clinical Programs

Kettering College’s academic programs are designed to prepare students for their respective certification or licensure exams and to apply for licensure or certification in Ohio. To this end, Kettering College’s clinical programs are fully accredited by regional and programmatic accreditors, however, completion of a program may not meet all requirements for licensure or certification in another state. Separate from educational requirements, state licensure boards may require applicants to complete professional examinations, background checks, jurisprudence (state laws, rules, and/or regulations) exams, etc. If you are planning to pursue professional licensure or certification in a state other than Ohio, it is strongly recommended that you contact the appropriate licensing entity in that state to seek information and guidance regarding licensure or certification requirements before beginning an academic program. Kettering College makes every effort to ensure information about educational requirements for licensure or certification information is current; however, state requirements may change.

If your program leads to a professional license or certification, authorization may be required from the state professional licensing board prior to beginning a clinical or field experience in that state. Check with your program’s internship or clinical coordinator with questions about state professional licensing board requirements prior to beginning an internship or field experience in another state

Click through the links to review whether a Kettering College licensure or certification program meets educational requirements for initial licensure or certification in each state.
