B.S. in Human Biology Admission Requirements
Human biology applicants must meet all Kettering College admission criteria including the following:
High School Students
- Meet all requirements for admission to Kettering College
- Minimum cumulative high school GPA of 3.3 (unweighted)
- ACT composite score of 23 or above OR SAT combined score of 1130 or above
- ACT math sub score above the 50th percentile (or the equivalent SAT sub score) OR score of 70% or above on the math placement exam
Transfer Students
- Meet all requirements for admission to Kettering College
- Cumulative college GPA of at least 3.0
- Science and Math GPA of at least 2.5
- Transfer credit equivalent to MATH 105 or above OR score of 70% or above on the math placement exam
Profile of a Successful Human Biology Major
The B.S. in Human Biology emphasizes the sciences. Students who succeed in the Human Biology program have an appreciation for scholarship and knowledge and a desire to learn new information and ideas. The following is a list of qualities students prepared for success within the Human Biology program will possess upon entrance into the program:
- A high school GPA of 3.3 (unweighted) or greater
- Minimum one year each of biology, chemistry and physics
- Minimum two years of college-preparatory mathematics
- In order to follow the suggested course of study, students must score at least 70 percent on the math placement test or provide transfer credit equivalent to MATH 105 or above
- Strong performance in advanced courses are historical indicators of success in the program (e.g. advance placement or dual enrollment courses)
Progression and Graduation Requirements
- To be admitted into the human biology major, the student must be eligible to register for MATH 165 the first semester of the freshman year
- The student must complete the core curriculum, included in the major’s course of study
- The student must earn a grade of “C” or above in all courses
- If a “C” or above is not earned in a course, then that course must be repeated. A student may not enroll in a course more than twice. Grades of WP and WF count as having been enrolled in a course
- If a student must repeat more than two courses during their attempted completion of the major, that student may be removed from the major. The student may apply for readmission following “The Human Biology Department Readmission Policy”
- The student must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0 each semester to remain in the major
- A cumulative GPA of at least 2.0 is required to progress and graduate from the major
- Students aspiring for admission into a graduate professional program should achieve a much higher cumulative GPA. Competitive professional programs typically look for students with a GPA of > 3.5
Human Biology 3+2 Accelerated Program Admission Requirements
The human biology 3+2 accelerated program is only for Kettering College students who have not earned bachelor’s degrees, are enrolled in the human biology major, and desire to accelerate their completion for the graduate program in physician assistant studies. Applicants must meet all Kettering College admission criteria and must adhere to the Human Biology admission requirements listed above as well.
