Kettering College Opens New Campus Store Named The Campus Corner
Kettering College had the grand opening of the newly renovated space that once used to be the bookstore and is now opened as “The Campus Corner” or “The Corner” for short. Like many other colleges and universities where bookstores are transitioning to being virtual bookstores, Kettering College’s bookstore made the switch as well.
Stella Freeman, who is in charge of inventory control for The Corner and has been working at the bookstore for 32 years stated, “It’s the trend for bookstores on college campuses. All of the college stores are transitioning to being online. Students are buying books online and you can’t blame them because they’re so much cheaper.”
Stella talks about how this gives the students more variety since books aren’t taking up the space and how this has changed the whole atmosphere of the store. The Corner provides services to not only students at Kettering but faculty, staff and employees of Kettering Medical Center. The Corner features a wide variety of products including school and office supplies, medical and class supplies, Kettering College gear, snacks and beverages, coffee, food, Dorothy Lane Market Killer Brownies, and much more.
“People think it’s wonderful. We’ve had a lot of curiosity seekers and there’s been a lot of marketing going on about it which is great. Before, we were kind of a secret and people that worked at the hospital for years talk about how they never knew this place existed,” says Stella.
The college faculty open house was held on Wednesday, August 20th and the soft opening for students during student orientation was on August 21st and 22nd which had over 300 customers come through the store. The Corner is located in the tunnel directly between Kettering College and Kettering Medical Center. The store hours are from 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Monday-Friday.
