In Memory of Oscar Boonshoft

Oscar Boonshoft, a dear friend and long-time supporter of Kettering Medical Center and

Kettering Health Network, passed away peacefully at age 92 on Monday, March 22.

Oscar retired as an engineer after 30 years at WPAFB. His parents, Harry and Bertha Boonshoft, his wife, Marjorie Boonshoft, and his brother, Jack Boonshoft, preceded him in death. He is survived by his four children, Linda, David (Gina), Arthur, and Aaron (Karla); and four grandchildren, Georgia, Stella, Chris, and Sarah.

Funeral services will be private, and a memorial service will be held at a future date.

Oscar Boonshoft’s involvement at Kettering Medical Center spanned many years. He had a passion for neuroscience research and his generosity funded extensive research in schizophrenia. Among his many involvements was an active role on the board for the Wallace-Kettering Neuroscience Institute.

He and his family had a significant role in funding the facility expansion for Kettering College, and the college’s main building is named in their honor. He attended the groundbreaking, dedication and opening of the Boonshoft Center for Medical Sciences in August of 2006 along with many other KMC functions over the years.

Boonshoft’s legacy reaches far beyond the KMC campus with the Boonshoft Museum of Discovery, the WSU Boonshoft School of Medicine, a boulevard that bears his name in Carillon Park and other locations. He was very involved and had a genuine interest in making Dayton a better place to live, and he will be sorely missed.

His bio is available on the WSU Boonshoft School of Medicine web site: https://medicine.wright.edu/about/article/biography-of-oscar-boonshoft
