Graduate and Guest Arrival
Spring Commencement Ceremony:
Graduates will arrive at the time their program has designated, dressed in your graduation regalia. Guests should arrive no earlier than 30 minutes prior to the ceremony.
Class photos will be taken before the ceremony begins. We will post the exact location and time for these class photos closer to the graduation ceremony. We will also email class photo times prior to the ceremony (make sure to check your KC email account).
Summer Commencement Ceremony:
We will allow students and their guests into the Schuster Center lobby beginning at 12:30 p.m. Seating will not begin in the Mead Theatre until 1 p.m. for family and guests. Please come dressed in your graduation regalia. Graduates need to give all valuables to family or guests as there will be no place to easily leave bags and belongings in the lobby of the Schuster Center.
Class photos will be taken before the ceremony begins at 12:45 p.m. We will post the exact location and time for these class photos closer to the graduation ceremony. We will also email you these class photo times in July (make sure to check your KC email account).
-
During the Ceremony: Marching
Graduation marshals will lead you to your seats. You will follow the student in front of you. When it is time for your major to proceed for graduation, the marshals will come to your row and you will follow them to line up. Specific information about marching order will be included in an email we send two weeks prior to the ceremony (make sure to check your KC email account).
-
During the Ceremony: On the Stage
Once in line, when it is your turn to walk across the stage, hand your name card to the academic dean and they will call your name as you walk to shake hands with the president. The president will hand you your diploma cover.
Please reach for the diploma cover with your left hand and shake the president’s hand with your right hand. Your left hand should go over your right hand. Please hold this pose for a few seconds while your picture is taken by a professional photographer. This photo will be emailed to your KC email address after the ceremony (make sure you check your KC email account).
Then finish walking off the stage to return to your seat. As the student in front of you is taking their picture with the president, you should hand your name card to the dean who will then read your name as you walk to receive your diploma.
-
During the Ceremony: Benediction
After everyone has crossed the stage, the benediction will be given. After the benediction, the graduation marshals will lead the stage party off first. The faculty will follow next. You will follow the faculty, with the last row leaving first.
Please ask your family to remain seated until all of the students have been lead out. You can meet your family in the lobby. There will be areas where photos can be taken.
-
Your Diploma
You will receive a diploma cover during the graduation ceremony.
Diplomas will be sent two to four weeks after the graduation date for fall, winter, and summer semester. They will be sent to the address you provided on the graduation application or the “HOME” address on file if no application was received. The diploma will be sent out by certified mail, so someone will need to be at the address to sign for the package. Because it is sent by certified mail, we are not able to mail to a P.O. Box.
For the diploma to be sent:
- All grades have been received, and all program requirements must be completed.
- The graduate must have met all financial obligations to the college.
- All loan exit counseling must be completed (this includes federal, Perkins, and Nursing Student Loan).
If you have any questions regarding your diploma, please email the registrar office.
