Respiratory Care Program Approved to Change from AS Degree to BS Degree
Kettering College will now be offering a Bachelors of Science in respiratory care that can be obtained in 3 years.
The newly accredited 3-year respiratory bachelor’s degree will address a higher level of critical thinking skills and more extensive learning experience than the current AS degree offered in respiratory care. Students will undertake an accelerated course schedule enabling them to obtain a bachelor’s degree in only 3 years. The new BS Degree was approved in September by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) and will begin admitting students in Fall of 2015.
Nancy Colletti, respiratory care program director, says that most respiratory care bachelor degrees are 4 year programs, in which the students don’t start core respiratory classes until their junior year. “We’re a unique program that is striving to standout by offering a different path of quality healthcare education by finishing in only 3 years.” She explains how the new degree allows students to be admitted without any prior college experience.
Another recent advancement for the respiratory program is their newly renovated labs, classrooms, and office space. The renovated facility is larger allowing the professors to create more student-centered learning activities. It also includes a ceiling mounted projector for better visibility when viewing videos and/or slides and has a dedicated space for brain storming and critical thinking exercises. Students have been enjoying this new space since its reopening in Fall of 2014.
