Kettering College of Medical Arts Prepares for 42nd Commencement
Kettering, Ohio (April 26) – On Saturday, May 1, Kettering College of Medical Arts will conferdegrees and certificates on 244 students at the school’s 42nd annual commencement ceremonies. The event will be held at the Dayton Convention Center, starting at 8 p.m., and is open to the public. Pete Luongo, retired president and CEO of the Berry Company, will be the keynote speaker.
College president Dr. Charles Scriven will grant 155 Associate of Science (A.S.) degrees in the following areas: nursing (99), radiologic technology (24), diagnostic medical sonography (19), respiratory care (10), and nuclear medicine (3). Four certificates of completion in computed tomography and three in magnetic resonance imaging also will be granted.
A total of 51 bachelor’s degrees will be awarded, including 21 to graduates of the Bachelor of Science in nursing. Nine Bachelor of Science in health professions degrees will be granted in the following specialties: health care professional studies (4), diagnostic medical sonography (3), and advanced imaging (2). Twenty-one Bachelor of Science in human biology degrees will be presented as well.
Also notable will be the commencement of 31 students from the school’s graduate program, the Master of Physician Assistant Studies.
Nine of the graduating students will receive special recognition as members of the Vaughan-Beaven Service Learning Honors Program. These honors graduates are Milfred Abraham (radiologic technology), Jonathan Burey (human biology), Nichol Cheever (human biology), Rudy Der (human biology), John Fierce (human biology), Holly Fortkamp (physician assistant), Tara Jehn (physician assistant), Emily Pitzer (diagnostic medical sonography), and Jean Wright (diagnostic medical sonography).
Guest speaker Pete Luongo retired as president and CEO of the Berry Company in 2003 after a career there that spanned more than 33 years. Since retirement, Luongo has devoted himself to giving back through his book, 10 Truths About Leadership…..It’s Not Just About Winning; through speaking engagements and board memberships; and by serving as executive director of Center for Leadership and Executive Development at the University of Dayton. Luongo is vice chair of the Kettering Health Network Board.
