Kettering College Receives Gift from the Late Eva Miller

Kettering, Ohio (Jan. 28) – Kettering College of Medical Arts has receivedabequest of nearly $431,000 from the late Eva Miller, who passed away last year at the age of 99.

The gift is the third-largest individual donation in the 43-year history of the school, and it caps what has been nearly one million dollars in donations from Eva Miller to Kettering College over the last 12 years. Half the funds will be used for the Eva Miller Nursing Scholarship, with the remainder contributing to ongoing renovations at Kettering College and to the school’s annual fund.

“Eva Miller was a nurse at Kettering Hospital from the start. She had a great loyalty to nursing, and a great loyalty to the hospital and the college,” said Kettering College president Charles Scriven. “Her gift comes from a generous heart, and from a deep love for what the Kettering family established in our community.”

Miller’s previous donations helped create a new chemistry laboratory in the Boonshoft Center for Medical Sciences at kc and contributed to scholarships and the annual fund. Her total giving ranks third overall among Kettering College donors.

“In 1998, Dennis Hanaghan, as Mrs. Miller’s attorney, acted on her behalf, beginning her legacy of philanthropy for Kettering College, which lasted until her death,” said David McElwee, director of major and planned gifts for the Kettering Medical Center Foundation, which also raises monetary support for Kettering College. “Knowing that she was among the very first nurses at Kettering Medical Center made it even more compelling to recognize and celebrate her career and the generosity that personified Mrs. Miller.”
