Kettering College Prepares for 43rd Commencement
Kettering, Ohio (April 26) – On Saturday, April 30, Kettering College will confer degrees and certificates on 282 students at the school’s 43rd annual commencement ceremonies. The event will be held at the Dayton Convention Center, starting at 8 p.m., and is open to the public.
Frank Perez, CEO-Emeritus of Kettering Health Network, will be the keynote speaker.College president Dr. Charles Scriven will grant 163 Associate of Science (A.S.) degrees in the following areas: nursing (114), radiologic technology (20), diagnostic medical sonography (17) and respiratory care (12). Three certificates of completion in magnetic resonance imaging and one in computed tomography also will be granted.
A total of 59 bachelor’s degrees will be awarded, including 24 to graduates of the Bachelor of Science in nursing. Twelve Bachelor of Science in health professions degrees will be granted in the following specialties: health care professional studies (5), advanced imaging (5), diagnostic medical sonography (1), and respiratory care (1). Twenty-one Bachelor of Science in human biology degrees will be presented, and two students – Mary Banks and Brigham Turner — will represent the first graduating class from the new Bachelor of Science in diagnostic medical sonography degree.
Also notable will be the commencement of 56 students from the school’s graduate program, the Master of Physician Assistant Studies.
Fifteen of the graduating students will receive special recognition as members of the Vaughan-Beaven Service Learning Honors Program. These honors graduates are Adrienne Ashby (nursing), Joanne Cross (nursing), Debra Filbrun (nursing), Kristy Hoch (nursing), Rachael Houck (diagnostic medical sonography), Kyle Litteral (human biology), Ashley Northup (diagnostic medical sonography), Anthony Passerallo (human biology), Elizabeth Race (human biology), David Reams (human biology), Brittany Rurode (nursing), Laura Sexton (nursing), Katie Strayer (diagnostic medical sonography), Erin Szekely (diagnostic medical sonography) and Laura Tipton (nursing)
Keynote speaker Frank Perez is CEO-Emeritus of Kettering Health Network. During his more than 41 years in health care, Perez was chief executive officer at numerous organizations in the US and overseas, ranging from 600-bed hospitals to systems with up to 2,000 beds. Over the past decade Perez led in the merger of Kettering Medical Center and Grandview Medical Center, Greene Memorial Hospital/Greene Health Partners, and most recently Fort Hamilton Hospital, to form the Kettering Health Network. The expanded organization now includes six hospitals with a seventh under construction, a college, retirement center, multiple affiliated programs and some 10,000 employees under one corporate umbrella.
