Advanced Imaging

Advanced Imaging

Advanced Imaging is a unique program with many choices. We offer Computed Tomography (CT), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Vascular Interventional Technology (VIT) or Cardiovascular Interventional Technology (CIT). Whether you want to obtain a certificate in a specific modality or combine two modalities and earn a bachelor’s degree – we offer both!

All four modalities are offered online only. The bachelor completion program in Advanced Imaging can mix and match modalities to better customize your marketability in the field.

We have an above average first time registry pass rate as well as job placement for those actively seeking jobs. Each modality (CT, MRI, VIT and CIT) have been deemed by the ARRT as, “Meets the ARRT structural education requirement for certification and registration.” This approval meets a new requirement to sit for the Registry by the ARRT mandatory as of January 2016.

    • About the Certificates

Advanced imaging is a specialized field in radiologic technology that includes computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), vascular interventional technology (VIT), and cardiovascular interventional technology (CIT). The RSI department at Kettering College offers all four certificates.

CT can be earned in 10 weeks during the summer, MRI can be earned in one and a half semesters in the fall and winter, VIT can be earned in 16 weeks in the fall, CIT can be earned in 16 weeks in the winter. Students entering Kettering College as graduates of an associate degree in radiologic technology may continue their education with certificate programs in CT, VIT, or CIT as one semester courses of study. MRI can be earned in one and a half semesters. Those students with nuclear medicine, radiation therapy, or diagnostic medical sonography may continue their education with a certificate in MRI.

All advanced imaging programs require practicum experience in the semester in which the didactic courses are taught. Each student will be evaluated on classroom and practicum experiences. Completion of the clinical portions of these certificates is competency-based. To pass each clinical course, the student must complete all competencies required by the College including some items from ARRT. Please refer to bulletin for modality specific information.

The advanced imaging programs prepare the students for the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists’ post-primary certification examinations in CT, MRI, VIT, and CIT. Didactic and clinical courses help prepare for these examinations. For more information on the eligibility requirements, refer to the ARRT website: www.arrt.org. All Advanced Imaging Modalities meet ARRT structural educational requirements for certification and registration. ARRT Registry review material and MRI Simulator will be incorporated into this course.

    • About the Bachelor's Completion Program

Completion of Kettering College’s Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences degree, with an emphasis in advanced imaging, provides additional training in the field, as well as advanced skills, knowledge and values that expand the radiology technologist’s role in the health care system. You’ll gain in-depth knowledge and move toward the certification level in either sectional or vascular imagining. This program is specifically for health care professionals that already have an associate degree and want to complete a bachelor’s degree in the area of advanced imaging.

Attending the Advanced Imaging program really prepared me for my future career. I am very fortunate to be working in a field that I love which would not have been possible without the guidance of the faculty and the Advanced Imaging program at Kettering College.

About The Profession

Some radiographers specialize in computed tomography (CT), and are sometimes referred to as CT technologists.  CT scans produce a substantial amount of cross-sectional images of an area of the body.  From those cross-sectional images, a three-dimensional image is made.

Radiographers also can specialize in Magnetic Resonance Imaging as an MR technologist.  MR uses non-ionizing radio frequency to produce multiple cross-sectional images to create a detailed image.
Cardiovascular technologists assist physicians in diagnosing and treating cardiac (heart) ailments, vascular interventional technologists assists and aid physicians with a variety of procedures in peripheral vascular disease.
For more information about careers in advanced imaging, visit the Bureau of Labor Statistics website.

PROFESSIONAL REGISTRATION

The advanced imaging programs prepare the students for the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists’ post-primary certification examinations in CT, MRI, VIT, and CIT. Didactic and clinical courses help prepare but cannot guarantee eligibility for these examinations.  For more information on the eligibility requirements, refer to the ARRT Web site.

Approval And Accreditation

Kettering College is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission, approved by the Adventist Accrediting Association (AAA), and authorized by the Ohio Board of Regents. All Advanced Imaging Modalities meet ARRT structural educational requirements for certification and registration.

    • NC-SARA

The National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (NC-SARA) is an organization that allows member states, districts, and territories of the United States who have comparable national standards to offer postsecondary distance education courses and programs among member states. This agreement is intended to make it easier for students to complete clinical assignments and/or take online courses offered by post-secondary institutions based in another state.

Kettering College (KC) is a member of NC-SARA and Ohio is a SARA state. However, some US states and territories are not members at this time; therefore, KC cannot offer online courses, clinical assignments,  or other forms of distance education in the following American states and territories: California, American Samoa, Guam, Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI).

The Ohio Department of Higher Education (ODHE) is responsible for responding to formal complaints against public, independent non-profit and proprietary institutions of higher education in Ohio. While the ODHE has limited authority over colleges and universities, and cannot offer legal advice or initiate civil court cases, the Chancellor’s staff will review submitted complaints and work with student complainants and institutions.
