Kettering College to Hold Virtual Graduation to Celebrate Spring Graduates
Graduates will also be able to share clips of themselves on social media wearing digital caps and gowns via a Snapchat filter.
APRIL 24, 2020 – Kettering College has announced a virtual graduation to be held on Friday, May 8, 2020 at 6:30 pm, for spring graduates instead of an in-person ceremony, which was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Using a digital platform created by British tech company, StageClip, graduates will be able to record a video message with their smartphones, tablets or laptops that will appear on a custom slide with their name, photo and a personal message.
The footage from all graduates will be edited together to create a ceremony procession, preceded by a welcome address by Kettering College President Nate Brandstater, and then streamed live for graduates, their families and friends via YouTube to create a celebratory communal event.
Individual achievements will also be recognized as each student is announced by name, before receiving their recognition in an individual clip for sharing on social media and keeping forever. And for students in need of a cap and gown, StageClip created a Snapchat augmented reality lens that places them in the attire for both undergraduate and graduates.
Today’s announcement by Kettering College comes after many universities and high schools around the world were forced to postpone in-person graduation ceremonies because of the coronavirus pandemic.
“Nothing matters more to us than the success of our students,” said President Brandstater. “Commencement is the most public way we celebrate that success, and I am thrilled to be joining our faculty and staff in celebrating digitally the amazing accomplishments of our students.”
